MITCHELL C ZWAIK
Mitchell Zwaik is the founder and director of Mitchell Zwaik and Associates, a Bohemia based law firm that limits its practice to immigration law. His commitment to immigration law led him to establish the firm in Suffolk County, Long Island in 1980, soon after his admission to the New York State Bar. But that commitment dates back still further to his uncle, Stanly Zwaik who began practicing immigration law in New York City soon after World War II. Since those days, U.S. immigration law has become increasingly complex. Add the explosive growth in immigrants seeking admission to the U.S. and the zero tolerance approach of the government for even minor errors or omissions in immigration applications and the result has been an ever increasing need for an immigration bar that specializes in the nuances and intricacies of U.S. immigration law.

Mitchell Zwaik & Associates is well versed in almost every facet of immigration law, including business related visas, employment and family based applications for permanent residency and immigration litigation in both immigration and federal appellate courts. He represents clients seeking to make all sizes of investments in the U.S. to obtain immigration benefits as well as asylum applicants facing possible deportation. He has lectured before business groups and bar associations and is a contributor to "The Suffolk Lawyer." He has appeared for clients at immigration interviews from Miami, Florida to Sacramento, California and in immigration and federal courts across the United States. He is a long time member of both the American Immigration Lawyers Association and the Suffolk County Bar Association where he currently serves as Chair of the Immigration Law Committee.

MICHAEL A GILBERT
Michael Gilbert is a partner in the firms and heads the litigation team. He has more than 10 years experience in complex issues including Asylum and Cancellation applications and foreign nationals convicted of certain crimes. He regularly appear at Bond, Master and Individual hearings. Michael decided to practice immigration law because he wanted to work in a legal field that addressed social issues such as: human rights violations, family re-unification and racial and ethnic inequality. Before entering the immigration field, he had previous experiences with both family and friends trying to work their way through the Immigration process. He realized then how frustrating it was for foreigners to navigate this complex governmental bureaucracy and wanted to provide insight and guidance to help them to do so.

Michael Gilbert graduated Magna Cum Laude form SUNY Brockport, with a major in Philosophy. He received his Juris Doctor from SUNY Buffalo. He is admitted to practice in the U.S. Supreme Court, Court of Appeals 2nd Circuit, Supreme Court of New York, U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of New York and the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York. He is a member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA), the Phi Beta Delta Honor Society for International Scholars, and he was the recipient of the Departmental Scholar Award in Philosophy at SUNY Brockport.

VANESSA ZWAIK
Vanessa joined the firm in June of 2007. She earned her undergraduate degree at the State University of New York at Albany where she majored in Business Management. From there Vanessa chose to enter the corporate world and started her employment at a boutique Public Relations Firm. Quickly longing for a more significant vocation, Vanessa entered the prestigious Brooklyn Law School. During her time at Brooklyn, Vanessa was a member of the mediation clinic in which she volunteered her time helping to solve conflict in some of the toughest neighborhoods in Brooklyn. She also spent some time during her law school career working for the Brooklyn District Attorney’s office, which has provided her valuable insight into the world of criminal prosecution.

Since joining the firm, Vanessa has jumped right in, and has helped clients with an impressive array of immigration issues including adjustment of status, naturalization and litigation. Along with her acute appreciation and interest for immigration law, she has brought to the firm her passion for public interest, and her advocacy for individual rights.
