| May 10 - Structures and Building Envelopes |
|
Creating buildings that accomplish low energy usage requires careful attention to the building envelope details. The structural elements that are part of the building envelopes can  make or break a building's energy performance. This session will address thermal bridging, foundation insulation discontinuities, some problem conditions (using infrared images), and present some solution options. It will also review positive and negative sustainability aspects of concrete, wood, and steel. Continuing Education Units Available

Attainable Long Island Team
Seeks Green Home Design Applications | | 
The Town of Babylon, United Way of Long Island, U.S. Green Building Council Long Island Chapter, and the Long Island Power Authority have announced that they are co-sponsoring a national design competition as a part of their mission to build the most sustainable and affordable home possible on a site in Wyandanch. The leaders of this Attainable Long Island alliance have determined this site will be the place where both green and affordable housing will be redefined. The winner of the competition will receive $10,000.
May 20th is the registration deadline.

| LEED for Homes Scoring Tool |
|
The LEED for Homes Scoring Tool is an easy way for anyone to get acquainted with green building and the LEED for Homes rating system.  The Quick Score path is intended for people new to LEED for Homes and allows users to answer very general questions about green building. After answering approximately 15 questions users will receive an approximate certification level. The Credit by Credit path is a walk-through of the rating system with a built-in checklist in which users can review credit requirements and indicate Yes, No or Maybe that the project will meet the intent of that specific credit. USGBC-LI's New Office to be
LEED Certified |

USGBC-LI will be moving into new office space shortly at 150 Motor Parkway in Hauppauge. USGBC-LI will be seeking certification under the LEED for Commercial Interiors rating system. The layouts have been approved and sources are being sought for office furniture, fixtures, and the like. Stay tuned for status updates.
