Residents of the district include the northern portion of Brookhaven, and the entire towns of Huntington, Smithtown, Riverhead, and the East End. In advance of the early voting dates of June 15-23 and the New York State primary election on Tuesday, June 25, the League of Women Voters of the Hamptons, Shelter Island, and North Fork will be holding a Democratic Congressional candidate's primary debate on Monday, June 10, 7-8 p.m., hosted by Southampton Town's SEA-TV.

The debate is co-sponsored by the three other Suffolk County Leagues in the 1st Congressional District -- the Leagues of Brookhaven, Huntington, and Smithtown.

Participating in the debate will be the two Democratic Congressional candidates in the 1st C.D. -- John Avlon, a news editor, author, and former CNN anchor, and Nancy Goroff, a scientist and former Stony Brook University chemistry department chair. They will each make timed opening and closing statements and answer questions submitted by the Leagues and the public.

The June 10 debate can be viewed live at 7 p.m. on Southampton Town's YouTube channel at www.YouTube.com/c/SeaTVSouthampton and anytime afterward on the same YouTube channel, starting the following day, June 11.

The public is invited to submit questions for the candidates by emailing them by June 7 to LWV Voter Services Committee Chair Neil Cohen at neilcohen.8@gmail.com

The winner in the June 25 Democratic primary will face Republican Congressman Nicholas LaLota in the general election on Tuesday, November 5.

For those unable to vote in person on the early voting days of June 15-23 or on primary election day, June 25, absentee ballot applications and early mail ballot applications are available on the NYS Board of Elections website at www.elections.ny.gov or the Suffolk County Board of Elections website at www.suffolkvotes.com However, those issued an early mail ballot or an absentee ballot cannot vote in person on a voting machine on June 25.
