ABOUT THE FIRM
Kennedy and Gillen is a general civil practice firm based in Garden City, New York. The firm's emphasis is in the field of real
estate law, supermarket law and general civil litigation. We have served varied clientele, consisting of large and small corporations,
including a major Long Island supermarket chain, one of the country's largest REITS, real estate developers, residential cooperative
corporations, corporate executives, individuals, insurance companies and a major national university. Practice areas include
commercial and residential real estate, supermarket law, personal injury defense, construction law, corporate law, probate,
labor law defense, and employment law.
The firm presently has six (6) attorneys admitted to practice in the New York State and Federal Courts. In addition to their respective academic
and private practice achievements, each of our attorneys brings a variety of talent and experience to the firm's practice.
In the real estate area, the firm has handled the acquisition and development of shopping centers in Manhasset, Commack and Central Islip.
In Central Islip, the firm was responsible for negotiating and drafting over 25 leases during the development of the shopping center on behalf
of the landlord, Kimco Realty Corporation. The firm also represented Kimco in leasing matters at a shopping center developed in Commack,
New York. The firm's attorneys regularly represent King Kullen Grocery Co., Inc., in all real estate matters, including as tenant in shopping centers,
as ground lessee, in the acquisition of real property and as landlord of excess retail space. The firm also regularly represents Westbury Realty
Venture, L.P., a Long Island - based real estate developer, and has negotiated and drafted leases on Westbury's behalf with Waste Management,
The New York Blood Center, Home Depot and Costco, among others.
In the employment law area, the firm routinely represents executives in negotiating long term employment contracts and counsels corporations,
large and small, in all matters relating to employment law, including confidentiality agreements, restrictive covenants, employment agreements
and severance agreements. The firm also handles employment litigation before the Federal Equal Employment Opportunity Commission as
well as the New York State Division of Human Rights and has handled employment litigation in arbitration, mediation and before the Federal Courts.
In the litigation area, the firm's attorneys have successfully handled thousands of lawsuits encompassing a broad spectrum of cases including:
shopping center landlord-tenant disputes; commercial landlord-tenant matters; premises liability; employment discrimination matters, including
sexual harassment, Title VII sexual discrimination and age discrimination matters; contract disputes, construction cases; automobile, including
road defect, design, construction and traffic maintenance; utility facilities damage cases; vibration damage; and assorted personal injury and
wrongful death cases arising from various building and construction settings.
Kennedy and Gillen's attorneys are active in the Nassau County and Suffolk County Bar Associations. Our attorneys also participate actively in
pro bono programs. In addition to maintaining involvement in legal associations, the firm's attorneys are active in civic and charitable affairs in
the Long Island community.
