2nd Precinct PLAB Mission and Website
|
|
The Suffolk County Police Department has established a Precinct Level Advisory Board (PLAB)
for each of the 7 SCPD Precincts.
PLABs assist SCPD in the following areas: addressing community concerns; fostering new
relationships with community leaders; expanding the community engagement reach of each
precinct; and providing clear lines of communication between the SCPD and the community
it serves.
The SCPD has published a notice explaining the goals of the PLABs, the eligibility
and selection process for members of the PLABs, and the initial openings on the PLABs.
The 2nd Precinct PLAB Website at https://www.2ndplab.com
contains a long list of valuable resources
for the SCPD community. It also contains a News and Events list with flyers, PowerPoints and videos
of past and future 2nd Precinct PLAB events.
The names and contact information of the 2nd Precinct Advisory Board members and some
police officers are also listed.

1st Quarterly Meeting: 2025 Suffolk County Police Department, Homeland Security & ICE's
New Policies Under the Current Administration
|
|
The news media are full of stories about ICE coming to Long Island and detaining immigrants
for eventual deportation. There is a lot of conflicting information available and many people
in the community are frightened.
The 2nd Precinct PLAB submitted questions to the SCPD 2nd Precinct and Headquarters to clarify
the situation. These questions include:
- How will SCPD be deployed or involved with ICE during this new political season?
- How is SCPD working with or alongside ICE?
- What information does SCPD have to provide about people who are targets of ICE?
- Is there a process or a policy for ICE and SCPD sharing information?
- Do SCPD officers have flexibility or discretion when dealing with ICE?
On Feb 24, 2025, SCPD provided answers to these questions and others from the 80 attendees at our
1st Quarterly meeting at the Huntington Public Library - Station Branch starting at 6:30 PM

2024 4th Quarterly Meeting: Annual Traffic and Pedestrian Stop Report |
|
On December 10, 2024, a presentation was made by 2nd Precinct Inspector Kevin Williams with up-to-date
traffic stop data taken from the SCPD Transparency Hub. The focus was on Town of Huntington Total Stops
-- including a breakdown of stops by race, stops with summonses, stops with arrests, and stops by other
criteria.
Data trends were analyzed by comparing data from the previous quarter and the previous year. The
discussion included analysis of the data breakdown to assess whether there appeared
to be biased policing occurring during the traffic stops.
The topic of biased policing during traffic stops is of great concern to the community. It is very difficult
to reach a definitive conclusion from the data provided. Watch the meeting video for the detailed Q&A.

Message From Inspector Williams, SCPD 2nd Precinct
|
|

Greetings from the Second Precinct and best wishes for a safe and prosperous New Year!
We are no longer hosting our daytime community meetings at the Second Precinct.
We made arrangements to have them at the Harborfields Library located on Broadway
in Greenlawn. The staff of the library has been gracious enough to let us host them
every other month there. At the January meeting, I received a lot of positive comments
about the new location.
I reported at our January community meeting that overall
crime in the Second Precinct is down around twelve percent. I am happy with that
number, but as always we will strive to do better. My officers have been doing an
outstanding job and together with the help of the community I believe we can improve.
Keeping the community safe and protecting property is always our main goal.
This year I will be encouraging my officers to increase the enforcement of traffic laws as
this seems to be a major concern for many residents.
February 22nd was the sixteenth anniversary of the line of duty death of one of our beloved
Second Precinct officers. P.O. Glenn Ciano who was killed by a drunk driver while responding
to a call for help
from a fellow officer. We ask that you keep him and his family in your prayers.
We can never forget that he made the ultimate sacrifice serving the residents
of this county.
